What is Home Birth?

Home birth was, until the advent of modern medicine, the de facto method of delivery. Today, many families find that the clinical setting of a hospital is a sterile, stress-inducing experience, whereas a home birth allows them more control over their surroundings, support team, and choices. Ninety-nine percent (99%) of low-risk birthers who have birthed vaginally before will birth successfully at home. For first time pregnancies, the numbers are only slightly lower: ninety-five percent (95%) of low-risk first time birthers will birth successfully at home.

Water Birth

Water birth is an option where the depth of water in the tub enables the one to sit in water that covers your belly completely. The chemical and hormonal effects of water immersion take effect after about twenty minutes and peak around ninety minutes, providing great relief to the laboring person. Water birth is a wonderfully safe option for many, and provides many benefits to both the parent and baby.

  • Water provides significant pain relief.
  • Water immersion provides perineal support, decreasing the risk of tearing during delivery.
  • Buoyancy promotes more efficient uterine contractions and improved blood circulation.
